Stephen Thackeray's Memories of the Ashton Hall

I first visited the Ashton Hall in March 2004 and had an opportunity to play the superb organ...

It is an amazing feat of Victorian engineering and is a joy to play. However, it is only when you play it that you realise the extent of the task to restore this magnificent instrument.

Many organs have been dismantled over the years, especially in churches as many have closed. I certainly don't want to see such a marvellous organ as the one in the Ashton Hall be consigned to the history books.

I was part of the choir (now the Ashton Hall Organ Restoration Chorus) for the first combined Come & Sing and Last Night of the Proms event and experienced the full splendour of the instrument at an enjoyable evening.

Please take your time to read about the organ, the project and help us with our fundraising efforts. And of course, if you can make a donation to this worthwhile project, we would be very grateful.
